HIGHLIGHTS:
Disneyland celebrated its 20th Christmas season, highlighted by the Candlelight Caroling Ceremony narrated by Cary Grant, and "Fantasy on Parade," which appeared for its 10th year in the Park.
Disneyland hosted 34,500 guests on Dec. 25th, a new Park record for Christmas Day attendance. Earlier in the year, 49,750 guests visited the Park on Easter Sunday, once again a record high for that date.
"The Main Street Electrical Parade" entertained millions of summertime visitors, as did the All-American College Marching Band and a new addition, The Kids of the Kingdom.
This year 114,000 graduating high school seniors and their dates from 675 high schools, including first-timers from Vermont and New Mexico, attended seven Grad Nite celebrations.
In its 17th year, Disneyland's Community Service Awards program awarded $50,000 to 41 Orange County organizations. The Outstanding Award went to the Melodyland Drug Prevention Center and Hotline.
Carol DeKeyser toured nationally and internationally as the Park's 10th Ambassador to the World.
A host of special events dotted the calendar, including New Year's Eve celebration, Star-Spangled Holidays, Alice in Wonderland Days, Spring Fling, Country Western Special, Angels-Disneyland Fun Day, Viva Mexico, Senior Citizens Days, Disneyland and All That Jazz, "Herbie Rides Again" Days, Festival
Pan Americanos and "Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too" Days.
Many of the top names in the music industry entertained guests from the various Park stages. Big band and jazz stars included Count Basie, Les Brown, Bob Crosby, Maynard Ferguson, Neal Hefti, Woody Herman, Harry James and Stan Kenton. Pop performers included The Carpenters, Tony Orlando and Dawn, Olivia Newton-John, Quincy Jones, The Pointer Sisters and Charlie Rich.
